Trump ally holds mass trial in war on gangs

Hundreds of alleged gang members have gone on trial in El Salvador for more than 1,000 murders, as part of Nayib Bukele’s war on organised crime. Under the instructions of the country’s president, El Salvador is conducting mass trials of thousands of suspected gang members including from the powerful Central American gang Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), many of whom have spent years in prison without charge or visiting rights.
